Recommended Japanese Resources 3 (Kodansha) Kanji Learners Course KLC

For  Recommended Japanese Resources 1 Click here For  Recommended Japanese Resources 2 Click here For many years the study of kanji has been dominated by one book, Remembering the Kanji  (RTK) by James W. Heisig.  Personally I actually used a different book called a guide to remembering Japanese Characters by Kenneth G. Henshall.  However there is now a serious competitor to both of these books and it is The Kodansha Kanji Learners Course (KLC) by Andrew Scott Conning. This year I switched away from Henshall  to KLC and I am very happy that I did. It teaches 2300 kanji, which is basically the Joyo (standard use) Kanji plus another couple of hundred common kanji.  Which I personally think is about the right number of characters you need to really be comfortable reading Japanese.  Its strongest point I think is the very logical order that he introduces kanji in, both the kanji and the example vocabulary build on each other wonderfully. Recommended Japanese Resources 2 https://nhkeasier.com

I found out about a new website yesterday   https://nhkeasier.com  it has the news from NHK Easy (another great resource) but in a much easier to read, streamlined format. Instead of having furigana there the whole time there are no furigana until you hover your mouse above a character, then it appears.  This makes it much more challenging and stops you subconsciously only reading hiragana. Personally, I do all of my reading in Japanese on my commute to work and the NHK easy website doesn`t work well at all on my phones screen.  This morning I read  https://nhkeasier.com  and the text fitted the screen beautifully I casually read three articles in one short train ride. This site is now going to be part of my morning routine, as soon as I have got through my anki cards (another fantastic resource) I`m going to NHK easier. Please tell me what you think about NHK Easier, NHK Easy, Anki and any other resources in the comments below. For Recommended Japanese Resources 1 Click H

Recommended Japanese Resources 1 A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar

Image
(Firstly sorry about the low quality photos, I will try to update them at some stage.) I chose this as my first textbook review for a reason, it really is indispensable to anybody learning Japanese, you really will use it regularly, either for reference of difficult grammar points or for fantastic example sentences.  I have personally owned this book for about fifteen years and still periodically go through it and review my basic grammar. Its format is that of a dictionary and the only negative comment I could make that it is quite dry, but it is just packed with essential information on every page.  It covers pretty much everything a beginner to intermediate student needs to know, in a couple of hundred grammar points including verbs, prepositions, adverbs etc.. (Note, it is a dictionary not a textbook so there are no exercises.) Each entry has a huge amount of information; It has the grammar point, English definition, grammatical usage, related expressions and about
